1
Au Pair Visa:
You need an au pair visa, which is usually valid for 6 to 12 months. During this time, you must take a German course and can improve your language skills to at least B1 or B2 level.
2
Recognition of Qualifications:
Parallel to your au pair stay, you can start the process of having your professional qualifications recognized to ensure that you are allowed to work in your profession after completing your au pair stay.
3
Switching to a Work Visa:
After you have improved your language skills and possibly had your qualifications recognized, you can apply for a work visa. This allows you to seamlessly enter the German job market.
Administrative Steps for Starting Your Career
Below you will find detailed information about the official requirements and processes that are important for starting your career in Germany. From the recognition of your qualifications to applying for a visa - we will guide you through the entire process.
Recognition Process:
Before you can work as a skilled worker in Germany, your foreign qualifications must be recognized. The recognition process includes the following steps:
Submission of documents: Your professional qualifications must be submitted to a competent German authority. This authority will check whether your training is comparable to German standards. Depending on the profession, it may be necessary to provide detailed information about the content and scope of your training.
Adaptation qualification: If differences are identified, you may be required to complete adaptation qualification or additional training in Germany to gain full recognition. This is often necessary in the education and health sectors.
Language requirements: A B2 level in German is usually required to work in these professions. Good language skills are particularly important to ensure communication in everyday work.
Granting of recognition: After fulfilling all requirements, you will receive a certificate of recognition that allows you to work in your profession in Germany.
Visa Process:
Non-EU citizens require a visa to work in Germany:
Applying for a visa: You must apply for a work visa at the German embassy or consulate in your home country. It is important that you can provide proof of your recognition and language skills. You must also provide proof of financial means, either through a blocked account or a declaration of commitment.
Processing time: Processing a visa can take several weeks to months. After entering Germany, you must convert the visa into a residence permit that allows you to work.
For EU citizens, such as Spanish skilled workers, the process is much simpler:
No visa requirement: EU citizens do not need a visa to enter or work in Germany. They can enter without prior authorization and start looking for work immediately.
Recognition process: EU citizens must also have their qualifications recognized in order to be allowed to work in regulated professions such as health or education. The recognition process is similar to that for non-EU citizens, but often faster because training standards within the EU are often more comparable.
